The Corniche

The walkway running around the bay, is a popular destination for visitors, expats and locals to enjoy walking and picnicking.

Souq Waqif

A maze of curving alleyways crammed with loads of restaurants, coffee shops and tiny shops that sell souvenirs and useful everyday items like fabric, kitchen goods, shoes, clothes, hardware, spices and nuts.

Before you Arrive

International Student Experience Team
Our International Student Experience (ISE) team are a dedicated team of pastoral and support staff who act as a contact point for you should you have any questions, queries or suggestions before you arrive and whilst you study. They will help you prepare for your journey to Qatar, welcome you upon your arrival and support you throughout your time with us. With a dedicated team member, support is there for you where and when you need it.

Preparing to travel
Preparation is everything. Take time to find out before you travel about when you need to arrive, where you need to be and what you need to bring with you and it will make your journey and stay at university much less stressful.
What clothes you should pack
What else you should pack
The climate in Qatar is generally sunny all year round, although the temperatures can be high in the summer months (June – September). You should bring clothes that you feel most comfortable in.

You may want to bring your national costume or something more formal to wear on special occasions but only pack what you can carry.
You will have to carry your luggage and there are going to be size/weight restrictions, so only pack what is necessary.
Many of the items/brands that you know can be bought in Qatar from shops in many of the large shopping malls so you may not need to bring them from home, for example:
Toiletries, e.g. toothpaste, shower gel, soap, deodorant
Bedding – you can request a bedding pack from Residential Services for a fee
Kitchen utensils – some kitchen utensils will be available in University accommodation
Adapters for electrical equipment
AA/AAA batteries
Travel Insurance
It's very important that you purchase travel insurance before your journey to Qatar. You should be able to purchase insurance through a travel agent or an insurance company in your home country.

Medical Insurance
We strongly recommend that all of our international students purchase their own private medical insurance before leaving home.
Final Check-list
Have you applied for and received your student visa or entry clearance to Qatar?
Arranged your accommodation and made the advance payment if necessary?
Arranged travel insurance, medical insurance, insurance for your property?
Obtained any relevant medical records, including vaccination certificates, and have them translated into English if necessary?
Checked restrictions on goods which can be brought into Qatar?
Packed your luggage and checked the weight to make sure that it doesn’t exceed baggage allowance at the airport?
Packed in your hand luggage: your passport, Student Visa, original documents, accommodation confirmation letter, a small amount of Qatari money for initial purchases, any medication that you need during your travels?
Checked on the restrictions on the amount of money you are allowed to bring into the country?
Packed a laptop or tablet to access course materials and complete assignments?

Qatar can be easily reached from every continent with flights offered by Qatar Airways and many airlines from across the globe. Hamad International Airport is conveniently located approximately 15 minutes from CUC Ulster

When can you arrive in Qatar

The “valid from” date on your visa is the date from which you can legally arrive in Qatar. We will be in touch with you about a month before and will provide you lots of information about our supported self-isolation options and transfers to your chosen accommodation.

Upon arrival at Hamad International Airport, you will be taken to your chosen accommodation. You will receive a welcome pack which will provide you with further instructions on your first few days and what to expect.
